So many patients in and around Milwaukee have benefited from our insights and expertise, particularly when it comes to body sculpting and contouring. One of the most popular methods of improving a patient's figure is liposuction, a body contouring surgery that involves the removal of unwanted fat. Let's see who an ideal candidate for surgery is and how liposuction can prove beneficial to you.

About Liposuction

Liposuction involves the use of safe and controlled suction in order to extract unwanted deposits of fat from the body. This is done by using a tool known as a cannula, a thin and hollow tube inserted into the skin. Surgeons carefully move the cannula back and forth in the treatment area in order to suction out all of the unwanted fat without damaging other tissues.

General Candidacy for Liposuction

Ideal candidates for liposuction are people who have unwanted pockets of fat in various parts of the body. These patients should be in generally good health and should not suffer from medical conditions that would make the procedure risky. They should have realistic expectations about the procedure and what it entails as this tends to lead to better patient satisfaction and experience.

Note: Liposuction is NOT Intended as a Weight Loss Tool

There's a common misconception out there that liposuction is a weight loss procedure. This is not the case at all. Only a relatively small amount of body fat can be removed safely during liposuction. While some weight loss will result from the procedure, the surgery is really mean to sculpt and recontour the body. Your surgeon will often ask that you exercise and eat right to lose as much unwanted fat as possible before you undergo liposuction.

Liposuction for the Torso

Liposuction is commonly performed on the abdominal region and the chest in order to improve body contour. This includes addressing the lower stomach, the love handles, the buttocks, and the hip and saddlebag region as well as addressing issues with the sides of the chest and the pectoral/breast area.

Liposuction for the Extremities

Fat pockets may affect the appearance of your upper arms and thighs. That's why a little liposuction of the arms or legs may be really helpful for giving you the toned and atheletic look that you have always wanted.

Liposuction for the Neck and Face

It surprises many people that liposuction can be performed on the face, but it's not uncommon. Sometimes the cheeks, the lower jawline, and the neckline can all be revised through careful and subtly performed liposuction.

In addition, liposuction may be performed on one part of the body so that the fat can be transferred and injected into the face in order to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This fat transfer treatment (aka microlipoinjection) has been growing in popularity over the years.
