Are sagging eyelids making you look older? Are the bags under your eyes constantly making you look tired?

Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate your upper and lower eyelids, giving you an overall more youthful look.

Dr. Tracy McCall can take years off your appearance through blepharoplasty at her Waukesha, WI, office.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a plastic surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids to reduce the bags or sagging that makes us look older. Blepharoplasty can give you a younger, fresher, and more "awake" look.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

Removing the sagging skin from your upper and lower eyelids will make you look younger and less tired, giving you a boost of confidence.

Improves Your Field of Vision

Severe sagging of your upper eyelids can affect your peripheral vision. By removing the excess skin and fat, you will be able to see your surroundings more clearly.

Results That Last

With several cosmetic treatments, like BOTOX® Cosmetic, you need to come back to the office every few months for upkeep. With blepharoplasty, the results are subject only to the natural aging process, so they last much longer. The results of upper eyelid surgery can last between five and seven years, while lower eyelid surgery results can last for more than a decade.

Great to Combine With Other Cosmetic Treatments

If you are looking for an overall more youthful look, talk to Dr. McCall about combining your Blepharoplasty treatment with other cosmetic procedures or plastic surgeries. BOTOX Cosmetic is a great addition as it can smooth out and help prevent crows' feet, while fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and RADIESSE® can create an overall more youthful look to go with your newly shaped eyelids.

Eyelid Surgery Can Soften Signs of Aging And Address Ocular Health Issues

Wrinkles surrounding eye

By tightening the skin around the eyelids, the wrinkles surrounding your eyes will become softer.

Puffiness underneath eye

The excess skin and fat around our eyelids cause them to look puffy. By removing that excess, the area around your eyes will appear younger and smoother.

Close up of sagging eyelids

Drooping eyelids not only age us, but can also negatively affect our vision. Getting rid of the excess skin helps prevent these issues.

Lack of Facial Expression

Excess skin and fat around the eyes make facial expressions difficult to show.  You may appear to others that you are tired, angry, or sad, which can negatively affect your confidence.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Generally, people in good physical health and who have realistic expectations are good candidates for this surgery. There is no hard rule regarding the best age for this surgery, but most patients are 35 years or older. Other things to consider before surgery:

Avoid Smoking

Smoking is not recommended before or throughout the treatment and recovery of your eyelid lift as it can compromise your healing.

Healthy Eyes

Patients who suffer from uncontrolled glaucoma, dry eyes, or other severe eye conditions may not be good candidates because these conditions can increase the risks during surgery.

Dr. McCall is amazing! She did a fantastic job on my bilateral reduction. I am so pleased with the results. Her nurse, Kristen, is also fantastic. I can't say enough good things! My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for a plastic surgeon in this area.

What to Expect Day of Surgery

Whether you're coming from Brookfield, Milwaukee, or further out in Wisconsin, you must have someone available to drive you to and from your surgery.
This is an outpatient procedure done in our Waukesha, Wisconsin, office that typically takes around two hours.
This is an outpatient procedure done in our Waukesha, Wisconsin, office that typically takes around two hours.

Your doctor will administer anesthesia to ensure you are comfortable during your surgery. General anesthesia is typically recommended for your comfort throughout the procedure.

The incision lines are designed so the scars will be small and well concealed. The location of your incisions depends on whether you are having your upper or lower eyelids done. If upper, your incision will be made in your natural crease. If lower, it could either be below the lower lash line, or the doctor may choose a transconjunctival incision that is hidden inside the lower eyelid.

Once the incisions have been made, your doctor can reposition or remove fat deposits, take away excess skin, and tighten the muscles and tissue. The entire blepharoplasty procedure only takes between one or two hours when not combined with any other cosmetic procedure. However, many of our patients choose to pair it with a facelift for comprehensive rejuvenation.

After Surgery

You will need someone to drive you home since this is an outpatient procedure. It is also recommended that you have someone to stay with you overnight.

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the quickest recovery.

Bruising and Swelling

It is common to experience bruising and swelling immediately after your eyelid procedure, but this should resolve within one to four weeks. We advise you to keep your head elevated and to apply ice packs to your eyes for the first 48 hours after surgery. Most of our patients are comfortable going out in public with makeup or glasses within seven to 10 days after surgery.

Possible Side Effects

Some patients may experience a temporary sensitivity to light, excessive tears, or dry eye. Be sure to contact your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms, which can be controlled with prescribed eye drops. Your doctor will also advise you to wear dark sunglasses, which will protect your eyes from the wind and sun.

Adverse Side Effects

Although rare, you should reach out to our Milwaukee-area office immediately if you are experiencing any bleeding, eye pain, or excessive swelling, since these may be signs of infection or something more serious.

What Does Blepharoplasty Cost?

Like all cosmetic procedures, the cost of eyelid surgery in Wisconsin will be different from patient to patient. The pricing can heavily rely on the specifics of your individual case. If you are undergoing this procedure to address obstructed vision, insurance may contribute to a portion of the cost. A consultation with Dr. McCall is necessary to create a treatment plan based on your needs. We offer financing to help you budget for the cost of reaching your goals. Contact our Waukesha practice serving Milwaukee, Brookfield, and anyone in Wisconsin wanting to look younger.
