Are sagging eyelids making you look older? Are the bags under your eyes constantly making you look tired? Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate your upper and lower eyelids, giving you an overall more youthful look. Dr. Tracy McCall can take years off your appearance through blepharoplasty at her Waukesha, WI, office.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a plastic surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids to reduce the bags or sagging that makes us look older. Blepharoplasty can give you a younger, fresher, and more “awake” look. Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Both surgeries hide their incisions in the natural creases of your eyelids to conceal the scars.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

This surgery lifts drooping eyelids and the incisions are made along the eyelid crease.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

This surgery reduces the bags underneath the eyes and the incisions are made along your lash line.

Benefits of Blepharoplasty

Confidence

Removing the sagging skin from your upper and lower eyelids will make you look younger and less tired, giving you a boost of confidence.

Improves Your Field of Vision

Severe sagging of your upper eyelids can affect your peripheral vision. By removing the excess skin and fat, you will be able to see your surroundings more clearly.

Results That Last

With several cosmetic treatments, like BOTOX® Cosmetic, you need to come back to the office every few months for upkeep. With blepharoplasty, the results are subject only to the natural aging process, so they last much longer. The results of upper eyelid surgery can last between five and seven years, while lower eyelid surgery results can last for more than a decade.

Great to Combine With Other Cosmetic Treatments

If you are looking for an overall more youthful look, talk to Dr. McCall about combining your Blepharoplasty treatment with other cosmetic procedures or plastic surgeries. BOTOX Cosmetic is a great addition as it can smooth out and help prevent crows’ feet, while fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and RADIESSE® can create an overall more youthful look to go with your newly shaped eyelids.

Am I a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Generally, people in good physical health and who have realistic expectations are good candidates for this surgery. There is no hard rule regarding the best age for this surgery, but most patients are 35 years or older. Other things to consider before surgery:

Avoid Smoking

Smoking is not recommended before or throughout the treatment and recovery of your eyelid lift as it can compromise your healing.

Healthy Eyes

Patients who suffer from uncontrolled glaucoma, dry eyes, or other severe eye conditions may not be good candidates because these conditions can increase the risks during surgery.
