What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow's feet and other wrinkles near the eyes. The treatment is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that create frown lines between the brows. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. The patients at Lake Country Plastic and Hand Surgery in Pewaukee also use BOTOX® to relieve migraine headaches, excessive sweating and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

How Does BOTOX® Work?

BOTOX® injections are done in our Pewaukee office. We use only the highest quality of BOTOX® and only BOTOX® specifically approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. The treatment consists of small injections into the facial muscles. Usually, no anesthesia is used, but numbing creams are available. BOTOX® results can last from three to six months.

The risks from BOTOX® include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Uncommonly, adverse reactions can include muscle weakness.

BOTOX® can be combined with facial fillers such as collagen, Juvéderm® and Radiesse® for further enhancement. Laser and IPL treatments can also be added to improve the color and appearance of the skin.
